Recap – Week 2

76ers Gaming Club (GC) defeated Mavs Gaming, 75-65, Saturday night at the NBA 2K League Studio Powered by Intel in New York City. 76ers GC remains undefeated with a 2-0 record, while Mavs Gaming fell to 2-1. 76ers GC is one of three undefeated teams, joining Blazers Gaming and Pistons GT.

76ers GC held a 30-29 lead at halftime before out-scoring Mavs Gaming, 45-36, in the second half.

76ers GC point guard Ethan “Radiant” White led the team with 20 points and 11 assists, shooting 7-of-12 from the field and 4-of-7 from three-point range. Radiant posted his second consecutive double-double as the first-round pick tallied 18 points and 12 assists in Week 1’s victory against Bucks Gaming.

76ers GC center Alexander “Steez” Bernstein dominated the glass as he corralled 12 of the team’s 20 rebounds in addition to recording 18 points. Steez propelled 76ers GC to out-rebound Mavs Gaming, 20-10.

76ers GC shooting guard Rashann “ZDS” Petty tallied 17 points as he shot a perfect 5-for-5 from three-point range. ZDS (five made threes) made more three-pointers than Mavs Gaming (four made threes) did as a team.

On the victory…

The Mavs are a strong team in the league, and this was an incredibly big win for us on the young season. We struggled in the first half, which led to a few errors, but we knew our team was determined to stay undefeated. I kept telling the guys to stay composed, fight through adversity and we will make a run. They have really made huge strides in becoming a family and playing as one, which really showed throughout this match.

On the difference in the second half…

We came out of the break and played our brand of basketball in the second half. We had a great mixture of pick-and-roll sets, and we executed well. Our team has had success by playing selfless, and that is something that really sets us apart. We have a balanced attack and having the guys buy into that is a great feeling. It’s huge to start off the season 2-0. With a tough opponent next week in the Wizards District Gaming, we will get back to work and prepare for them accordingly.

On how they defeated Mavs Gaming…

We moved the ball well and got everyone involved. We are the best shooting team in the league, and I feel like we showed that in the victory over the Mavs.

On playing against Mavs Gaming’s first overall pick Dimez…

Dimez is a great player. He also likes to pass a lot, so we try to limit open passes to sharp shooters and give up twos rather than threes. He’s also not the best shooter, so we live with the points he gets as long as they aren’t threes.

On the difference between the first half and second half…

In the first half, we tried to do too much with the ball instead of making the game easy for us and make the extra passes. Once the second half came around, we started getting some ball movement, and that lit a fire around the perimeter to score and win.

On 76ersGC out-rebounding its opponents…

We want the ball more than these other teams. We know that if we can make an extra effort to box out and crash the boards hard then it can pay off with some extra points.

NEXT UP: 76ers GC will take on Wizards District Gaming Saturday at 1 p.m. live on Twitch. Wizards District Gaming enters Saturday with a 2-1 record.
